“Comics from Berlin. Pictures of a City”
International Literature Festival Berlin
Sophisticated, diverse and funny — these are the characteristics of comics from Berlin! All prominent varieties of comics, ranging from anarchic fanzines to narratively polished graphic novels, have found a home here, supported by a vital network of larger and smaller publishers. This is why, in addition to local illustrators, more and more international comic artists use the city as a source of inspiration and as production location for their own works. The exhibition “Comics from Berlin. Pictures of a City” not just wants to convey the strong creative energy of this scene but also, and above all, aspires to show how the city itself becomes the subject matter. Against the background of the contemporary and historic development of Berlin, the medium of the comic book presents itself as a highly sensitive form of art that is trenchant as well as reflective and offers an enormously rich stylistic diversity.
With local and international artists:
Max Andersson, ATAK, Sharmila Banerjee, Susanne Buddenberg & Thomas Henseler, Paula Bulling,Tim Dinter, Martin Ernstsen, Chrigel Farner, Anke Feuchtenberger, Fil, Flix, Aisha Franz, Dominique Goblet & Kai Pfeiffer, Reinhard Kleist, Peter Auge Lorenz, Ulli Lust, Mawil, OL,Till Thomas, Henning Wagenbreth … and somewhere you will also find some monkeys and a rather fat woman as created by Felix Pestemer hanging around.
